shamrockTara Alexandra Rankin - - My mom named me after the Tara in one of her favorite movies, Gone With The Wind. Yes! I like the way it sounds and because my favorite athelete, Tara Lipinski has the same name as I do. I pronounce my name like Sara with a T; I despise people who insist on pronouncing it TAR-uh! (particularly when I have told someone how to pronounce it correctly and they say, "Well, we'll just call you TAR-uh anyway" ). My mom hates it when people say "Oh, you mean TAR-uh like in Gone With the Wind" - since anyone who has ever seen the movie Gone With the Wind knows that in the movie it is pronounced TARA (like Sara with a T). My twin sister, Amber, wants to know when there will be an Amber page like this! (She thinks it's an Amber-world - but obviously its not!)

shamrockTara Stephanie K. -- - My mother had known someone in college with that name & thought it sounded different. I am also Irish, which helped her choose the name also. Yes, it's unique...just like me! I pronounce my name like Sara with a T. I don't mind being called TAR-A either.

shamrockTara Lee P. - - My parents chose it out of a baby name book, and it apealed to my father due to his Irish roots. I always wished I had been named for Gone With The Wind, and when I wa young and wanted to be exotic I used to tell people that story. I love my name now. It sounds solid and earthy, and I like that. I used to hate it, when I was five I told a friend that Tara was my middle name, and that Crystal was my real name. Crystal!! Can you imagine? : I prodounce my name Terra, but find some people (Australian's in particular) have a difficult time distinguishing tera from terror. Has anyone else had that problem?

shamrockTara Marie Hansen - - My parents always liked the name, and they wanted to name me something original for myself. Sometimes. Sara w/a T.

shamrockTara Rose White - - Tara Rose will be 2 in February so I'll write for her her! I'm her mother. We picked her name (pronounced Tahra) because both her father and I thought it was a beautiful name. We are both of Irish decent - but he's Croatian so I was excited to hear about the Yugoslavian connection to the name ! We also have friends from Tara in Ireland. Our other daughter is named Lucy and our pediatrician just told us that Tara means "star" and Lucy means "light" in Indian.

shamrockTara Dawn LaMonte - - My mother watched "Gone With the Wind" before I was born and decided that she liked the name "Tara." Oh Yeah! I LOVE MY NAME!!! The way they do in the movie "Gone With the Wind."

shamrockTara Renee - - Im Irish and named after a county there. Yes !! :). Like sara with a T. I have only met one other person that has the same name as me so its suprising and interesting to know many others have the same name :):)

shamrockTaryn Campbell - - My dad's name is Terry. My mom liked "Tara" and "Anne"....they eventually decided on "Taryn" (a combination of all 3)! I love it, although no one ever spells/pronounces it correctly! TARE-IN (like "Karen" but with a "T").Okay, I admit I'm not officially a "Tara" (and I understand if you don't want to include my entry)! However, I have an equally Celtic, equally unusual name -- TARYN. It's Gaelic in origin and it means "thunder" or "tender/innocent" (depending on which source you go by)! Because my name is so unusual, no one ever spells or pronounces it right. I've trained myself from an early age to answer to "Tara"..."Karen"...or "Terri", just to save time! I love the fact that the name is of Celtic/Gaelic origin (and it goes very well with my Scottish last name, Campbell)! To all you "Taras" out there, take pride in your beautiful Celtic name! Blessed Be!

shamrockTara Rae Vaughn - - Well, I called my mom to ask. I have always told people it's from 'Gone With the Wind'. My mom named me after Tara Plantation. But, after doing a search (for my own web site..using keyword: Angelrae) I saw this page. So I called mom to find out why...to verify it was 'Gone With the Wind'. So, now we both find out the real reason why... She had a friend (she said a little girl) that she knew. Her name was Tara Lynn Wooten (or in). This was when she lived in Canyon, TX. So, *this* Tara came from another Tara... and I'd like to say "Thank-you TLW. I love my name." *smiles* . I wouldn't want any other (name). TER-RAH.

shamrockTara Lee P. - - My mom and dad liked the name, and my grandfather liked it also. Yes I like it a lot. Tair-a.

shamrockTara Rose Mason - - I never knew that the name Tara was isish! I just knew that the name was in gone with the wind! I love my name. Tera.

shamrockTera Nicole C. - - My Mom wanted to name me Ashliegh Nicole but my Dad wanted me named after him. Terry is my Dad's name but my Mom thought Terri for a girl was not a good idea. So she read somewhere that Tera meant Earth and my mother is a nature freak. My dad agreed and said it was fine since it almost sounded like it. I have never in my life met anyone w/ my name and spelled the same way. Right now my best friend is named Tara. Also i have never met anyone who spells it lower case. I used to think it was degrading to not capitilaze your name but now i just realize its a way of saying im no better then anyone here, and your no better then me. My mom spelled it with an e because i think she knew i would probably never meet someone with the same spelling. It irritates me now that there are so many Taras but i feel better knowing my name is still different! I used to hate it and had everyone call me Nikki, but now i wouldn't change it for the world. It makes me feel special. Tear-a. my mom calls me tear-bear. If u spell your name like me, or are named Tara with the same birthday (9/3/84), I would very much like to hear from you!

shamrockTara A. - - I was named after the song "Tara's Theme" from Gone With the Wind. My mom played it on the piano. Yeah. I chose the meaning of "Sea Goddess." It fits because I love the sea and couldn't live with out it. Sara with a T. But I usually don't care.

shamrockTara Noelle Steele - - My parents saw the name used in the movie Gone with the Wind, they thought it was a pretty name. When I was little I hated it. But now I like it because it's really not that common. I don't know too many other Tara's. It's pronounced like Sara.

shamrockTara E. Ford - - I was named after my aunt. Yes! First syllable rhymes with star.

shamrockTara Allison N. - - My mom loved the name from "All My Children" and from "Gone with the Wind", but the clincher was that it sounded a lot like her name "Teri". I love my name, because it's short and sweet! Everyone pronounces it like Sarah with a T. I found your site while researching the meaning of my names for a Girl Scout Badge.

shamrockTara L. B. - - : My mother says NOT because of Gone with the Wind. She said because it was beautiful and unique, at the time, and means earth. Yes. Ta-ra. My mother says she had intended to have my middle name, Lee, be spelled Leigh...but she was dilerious after my birth and put it down on the paper as "Lee". I do like the Leigh spelling better...ahh, well...the name "Tara" has made up for that! Greetings to all the Tara's. BTW, I follow some Buddist practices. Tara is a significant name in that fellowship. {NOTE: Tara gives her age as 47, which is my age...I wonder when her birthday is, having found only one Tara older than me}

shamrockTara Michell Beimer - - My parents never said. They've mentioned "Gone with the Wind", and Ireland. I think they just really liked the name. I was the only one of four kids with a unique name. The rest were common. I didn't growing up, because everyone misprounced it. Even now it's hard for people to understand. But I love it now, because it's still not very common. Tar-uh (like tar, the black icky stuff. And I hate it when people call me TARE-uh) ;-)

shamrockTara Lynn Schaser - - My mom was 12 years old and was walking by the tv and noticed a soap and she heard the name Tara spelled like sara on all my children and she fell in love with that name besides it was irish and she said when she grew up she would name her daughter Tara and she did it was a beautiful name and she new that she would have a beautiful daughter and besides she liked the fact of naming her girls with the letter T because her name is Terry and she had another girl and also picked the letter T and her name is Tawny and the really funny thing is she had a son Charles and call's him Chuck and on the soap all my children there where a Chuck and Tara but that is how i got my name. Yes... because my mom picked it out and also it is very popular name for the Irish and that is something to be proud of . Tara like Sarah.

shamrockTera Lynn C.- - Parents loved the name Tara... Irish family but mother wanted a variation so added letter E. at first growning up I didn't there wasn't anyone with my nama and if they did have it.. it was spelled different and I could never as a child find anything with my name printed on it. I still can't to this day, but i'm very proud of my name now. Tear-ah. Please list me on your page... it is not the same spelling but everyone assumes. I am after all a Tara.. but without the a.

shamrockTara D. - - It is a rather strange story. Many years ago I requested an old Hindu swami to give me an East Indian name. He had done so for many others and I thought it would be a fresh start. In anticipation of that new name, I mentally threw away my old name. Unfortunatly the name he gave me was REPULSIVE! I had to leave that afternoon to visit a friend. On the plane I thought" this is ridiculous! Everyone but me has a name! What is my name? Then as if someone nearby was speaking, they said" of course. your name is Tara". I accepted that name and it has truned out to be a lucky name. A couple of years later I became Buddhist and found out that Tara is considered to be the mother of the Buddhas, very much like Mary in Christianity. I am 54 now and my life has taken so many turns and twists but I have always considered my name to carry happiness to me and the others. Yes. Tah'rah.

shamrockTara D.B. - - Gone With the Wind. Yes. Like Sara.

shamrockTara Leigh - - Mom liked it. (i liked it) before it became popular. Tear-uh.

shamrockTara Lynn Quackenbush - - My parents first heard the name in the Gone With the Wind, then learned of it's Irish origin (which I am, partially). I Love my name. It is still somewhat rare, which I like. I find it odd that there are so many Tara's with the middle name of Lynn. I wonder what the reason is for that. I think mine is Lynn after my aunt Linda. Tah-ra.

shamrockTara Nicolle Dover - - My Grandmother liked Gone with the Wind and Tara was the only name that my Father liked. When I was younger I really liked it because nobody else was named Tara but now it is more common. But it's my name so i guess I have to like it right? Depends....My mother says it Taaraah, which made all my school teachers say it tar ah and most of my friends pronounce it terra. Tara is a beautiful name and every one that has it is just as unique and beautiful.

shamrockTara Renee L. - - My last name is very long and my father, who works with computers wanted a short name. I love my name but I also like to go by my middle name because it is pretty too. I pronounce my name like Sara. : Whenever I meet someone new they always ask if I was named after the plantation in GONE WITH THE WIND and I have to explain the real reason for my name.

shamrockTara Chanda R.-G. - - I was named Tara because my mom and dad were really into the earth and natural healing. I suppose it was their way of showing their respect for mother "earth".My mother had also read "Gone with the wind" as a child and loved the name. I am half scott-irish so it's fitting. However, being that "Tara" is also an indian name my mom went with "Chanda" which means "moon" in the indian language. I guess you could say that I am my mother's nightlight. : I have always felt that my name really is who I am. I love my name. Once in grade school I even wrote the indian translation on my schoolwork. My teacher didn't know who "moon star" was.[ I didn't realize I had reversed the two in my own translation.] I pronounce my name:{terra shawnda].

shamrockTara Kimberly P - - Although many Taras near my age are named after Gone With the Wind (I think it may have been rereleasd around that time) I am not. My mother named me after the song "Tara's Halls" by Thomas Moore, which she fell in love with the first time she heard it in 1965. It's a pretty song but I don't like it as much as my mother does. Isn't that ironic? : However, I do love my name :) Even though I have mostly english ancestry, I am partly Irish. I have always felt a close kinship with all things Irish; from far before I ever found out that Tara was an Irish name. The one thing that dissappointed me for a long time about the name Tara was that it couldn't be shorted into a pet/nickname--that problem has now been solved by a few of my inventive friends who came up with "Arat" (Tara backwards-though you probably figured that out) or, more commonly, "A Rat". Luckily for me I like rodents :) My mother says my name is pronounced Tar-ah, my Father says Tare-ah (which is what I consider to be the equivilent of Sara), my friends generally use versions in between those two extremes. I prefer Ta-ra (which is what my brother calls me). As for everyone else; I'm not to picky about pronounciation--just as long as they call me Tara :)

shamrockTara Shane - - My mother named me Tara. short for Ostara, a Wiccan spring holiday. My birth date was near it. Shane comes from a friend of hers that was very dear to her. Yes (I like it). Like Sara with a T. As I get older, and I start taking in more spiritual aspects into my life it is nice to find out all the different meanings my name has.

shamrockTearah Ann P. - - : My mom really liked the name, and she decided to spell it "Tearah" to be different. I like my name because it's not too common, and it's very pretty. The thing I don't like is how people mispronounce it. I pronounce my name tear-ah, like it's spelled!

shamrockTara Susan B. - - : My mother named me after her favorite movie- "Gone With the Wind". Yes, I like it. Tah-ra.

shamrockTara Leigh T. - - : Just like about a third of the girls on this page, I was named after the girl on "All My Children." It was my mom's favorite soap when she was 24. : I love my name! I only know two other girls named Tara, and I'm 19! I love being an individual. My name is pronounced just like Sara. But when I was little my best freind's name was Tara too, so I started going by TaraLeigh, my middle name and my first name squashed together. That happened when I was about 5, and I have been TaraLeigh ever since. Only my close close friends call me Tara, and they hardly ever do. I get plenty of Sara-Lee jokes, but I love my name....I know no one else with it!

shamrockTara Fay - - It was 1984 and mom had went through every baby book she could find, trying to find a name to please my (very) picky father, but to no avail. She had just finished running through a list of names with my dad (unsuccessfully might I add) and went to pick up the book she was reading in her spare time, and the main character was named Tara. She jumped back up and ran into the living room and suggested the name Tara. Dad looks up, and sounds out the name in a million different ways, and finally decided he liked it. I love my name, for a million different reasons, one of which freguently comes up in thought- If I lose all I have in this life, I'll always have my name. My parent's gift to me- It rhymes with 'Sara'.

shamrockTara Marie - - Because of the sound and beauty of the name. Yes. Like terra as in terracotta. This name holds a strong strength in both beauty and wisdom. I believe it goes beyond physical beauty and shows inner beauty.

shamrockTara Ann - - In high school my mother named her egg that she was taking care of in health class tara and later realized how much she liked that name. Yes. Tear-uh.

shamrockTara Evelyn Marir Campos - - I like it sometimes. t-air-a.

shamrockTara Yvette Stinson - - My mother chose it from "Gone With The Wind" I think no matter how many people have the same name, it still is unique! Taras are special people. I pronounce it Tar-a (like tar). I introduce myself as Tara (like Sara) because most people will say it that way anyway.

shamrockTara Michele Taulane- - Both of my parents are of Irish heritage and loved the name. Also, I was the only girl out of four boys and my mom thought that naming her little princess after a royal Hill in Ireland would be appropriate. The most amazing thing is that my parents took me to see the Hill of Tara in Ireland, it is breath-taking. My own special, royal hill. :) I love my name. It is still unique and I haven't met that many Tara's. The only thing that irritates me is that most personalized items go from Tamara to Theresa, rarely any Tara's. But, that makes all of us Tara's in the world a bit more special, too. I pronounce it like Sara. My brothers call me Arat (Tara backwards) and most people pronounce it Terrah.

shamrock Tara Lee Bennett -- I was named after the house in Gone w/ the Wind. Yes very much so. ta-ra. I find that my name is very unique because of its ethnic backgrounds and there is hardly anyone w/ the name Tara around where i live. So i feel very special.
