shamrockTara Nicole Teasenfitz -- I'm not sure why my mother chose my name, I guess because she liked it. My brother's name is Todd, so I guess she just wanted to keep the "T" thing going. Also, with such a long last name she wanted something short for my first name. Yes, I do like my name, like others said as long as it is pronounced properly. Mine is pronounced Ta-ra, and it drives me crazy when people call me Tar-uh or Terra. And, for those who thought they got teased with the first name of Tara...try having my last name, or my initials, TNT, both are always good for a few jokes. But I am Daddy's little girl (even at age 22), and he knew I would be dynamite.

shamrockTara Lyn R. -- My mother told me most of my life I was named after "Gone With the Wind", but only recently confessed that her favorite soap opera actress was also named Tara. My name is pronounced Tear-a.

shamrockTara Jessica -- My mother chose my name, why, well I don't really know but what I do know is that my name has had relevance through out my life. I have always been attracted to the fearie realm and I feel the magic has always been with me. I do believe in the feary folk that they are a race of powerful, strong hearted people who work with the power of the land (earth, nature) with respect. I love my name and Im proud of it because it is also the name of the hill of Tara in County Meath, where the high kings of Ireland resided, druids, fearies ect. I pronounce my name Ta-ra. My middle name is Jessica, but I prefer Jessie. I now live in Leitrim, Yeats country, Benbullben, Queen maives mountain, carrowkeel, Fearie country! An artist who you may have heard of,who has inspired me since I was young 'Brian Froud,Book of fearies.

shamrockTara Eileen Anne Murphy -- My parents are very Irish, and they wanted to choose an Irish name for me. So they did some research and came up with the top 10 names in Ireland in the year I was born. They found Tara and thought it fit just perfectly. I love my name. It's very rare that I meet many other Tara's and I've often been told it is such a beautiful name. I pronounce it like Sara with a T. I think it's mostly the Brits that pronounce it Tar-a. I'm a 20 year old at the University of Notre Dame. I've found it interesting over time that most of the Taras that I meet share similar interests and physical characteristics with me. I'm an actress, singer, runner and gymnast with light brown hair and greenish grey eyes. And I LOVE being a Tara!

shamrockTara Domenica Kenny -- While many people often have to be identified with their last name or initial, I have always just been "Tara". My favorite book is "Gone With the Wind". It was my first book report in the 7th grade seventeen years ago. I walked down the aisle to "Tara's Theme" at my wedding. I love my name. I have known relatively few Taras in my life, but we all seem to have some things in common. We are outgoing and brave. We care about others. We are tough and quick-witted. We stand out. We laugh easily and love with our souls. We are down to earth and always bet on the underdog. We are the women who learned early in life to know the answer, because the teacher will always remember your name. I feel a bit sorry for all of the ordinary names. We started out ahead. My love to all of the Taras.

shamrockTara Bellino -- My name is Tara also and it was not a common name when I was younger, but now I hear of lots of Tara's. I do not pronounce it Terra though it is pronounced Tar ra. How about you? I was born in England and my mom was pronouncing it like Terra, but the English pronounce it Tar ra. I am a very big believer in Angels and have been for many years. One night in watching a program my mom found there was another Tara back east who loved angels also, she died very young 20 something and her mother opened up a store called Tara's angels. I hope to visit it someday.

shamrock shamrockTara Jaine Watkins -- I was named after a soap opera actress in 1971 (not sure what soap???). I'm 30 and yes, as my subject line says...I loooove my name. I'm of Irish descent (half, the other half Sicillian) and I'm a hazel/green-eyed red head. I, like most other Tara's (and tara's ;) )am asked if I'm named after the plantation in Gone with the Wind...but neither my mother nor I had seen the movie or read the book. Last year I decided to rent it and I was really caught off-guard by Ashley's presence and that Viven Leigh is the female lead...my eight and a half year old daughter is Ashleigh! Now I think of what a riot it would be if I had named my son Rhett! : ) I'm originally from the East Coast and love the pronunciation with that accent (first a is soft like cat) but have lived in the South and now in the West...so I get called both Tear-uh and Tar-uh. I'm used to it by now. I think it's a strong but very feminine name. We're all lucky...all us Taras!

shamrockTara Nicole C. - - My grandparents were Irish. I love it Ta-ra (not TAHH-RA).

shamrockTara Lynn S. - - I Like it. Tear-ah. (Where she got her name was left blank on her form)

shamrockTara Louise Mallane McGehee - - My mother saw Gone With The Wind the very day that I was born. She had settled previously on a hyphenated Southern Belle type name: Dori-Lyn. When I was born with flaming red hair, she knew I could only be Tara. It fit well, us being of Irish descent. I know have a daughter whom I have named Skye Erin , thus continuing a tradition begun with the naming of me. Love It! I was certainly the only person in my town as a child with that name. As both a redhead and someone with an unusual name, I took my fair share of ridicule. In retrospect, I think it built a great deal of character, and was largely part of who I am today. Living in a small town in Idaho, USA, I have never had anyone locally pronounce it other than Tara (like Sara). When I was younger I tried to explain the correct pronunciation, but is not a natural one for our Western American accents. I have had various people throughout the years pronounce it TAR -a, and at various times I have preferred that. I usually tell people that I don't care HOW they pronounce it!

shamrockTara J. Rowland - - Because Tara is an Irish name, that I'm told means "heaven" in Gaelic. Yes (I like it). Tar-ah.

shamrockTarah Shana Grant - - My mother named me after the plantation in Gone with the Wind. She has a heavy French accent though and "Tara" come out "TAR-ah" so she spelled it that way. I've never met another Tara with an "h." I like my name very much. I especially like the combination of my first name and my last name. One of my professors (I go to a very southern university) is always teasing me about it.

shamrockTara Rose Hansen - - Well...I was originally supposed to be named Cody(It was a Penthouse Model) but thankfully before going into labor and dooming me to the name of a porn star my mom watched Gone With The Wind and had a change of heart. Sure, why not? I mean, its not utterly fabulous but it's mine and mine alone. Tear-a (tear as in to rip, not tear as in to cry). I was overjoyed to learn that many others share the same beautiful name that I have.

shamrockTara Shereen Miller - - It's kind of a twisted thing from the "Gone with the Wind". My sister's name is "Charlotte" which sounds like Scarlet and my name is "Tara" kind of like Tara (terra ya know the place where scarlet lived.) It's alright for now. Tar-uh

shamrockTarah LeeAnne C. - - My mom liked it. My original name was spelled Tara but she read a book about a girl named Much Afraid and at the end of the book her name was changed. My mom asked if when we finished would I like God to change my name. Well we read about Abraham and Sarah in the bible and how God breathed on them and changed their names. I didn't want to change my name at that time but about a week past and I started writing my name as Tarah. My mom asked why and I said it was because God had breathed on my. My name was changed after that legally and I have followed Jesus. I love it. Like Sara.

shamrockTara Lee Hathaway Sgambellone- - I was born in a catholic hospital, call Queen Of Angels in Los Angeles. The nuns came to my mother and asked her what the babys name was, since I was supposed to be a boy and my name was to be Gig (after Gig Young) my mother was at a loss for a name. Several days had passed and it was time to go home, yet my mother still didn't have a name and nothing even in the works. As my mother tells it shortly after midnight on the 3rd night she rang the bell for the nuns, insisting that she was given my name in her dream. She announced that I was to be TAR - A (like the stuff on the road) Lee. The Nun's were agast, and refused to put the name on the birth certificate, insisting that the name meant scrap iron ( oh how true that turned out to be). In any case after many hours and from what I hear intense debate the nuns finally put the name on the birth certificate. Several months after my birth an article came out in national geographic detailing Ireland, Scotland and most notably ! ! " The Hills Of Tara" where "The Kings of Tara" ruled and through these hills runs the river "Lee". My Mother has (and I believe her ) always insisted that she was visited by Fairies and thus I was to be named by them. As a child I would have many times been a Becky , Laura or Sue ( the popular names). I was teased unmercifully called Tar-Baby and other names. It was that uniqueness that I came to love at an early age and that teasing and scrutiny that made me such a confidant (somewhat cocky ) adult. On a final note, The priests would not baptize with the Name Tara. I had to be baptized Teresa Elizabeth, however when it came to confirmation I refused to change my given name and so was never confirmed. Which turned out as it should be since I am a practicing Pagan. I love my name. It is a powerful, strong and noble name as well as a link to the land of Fae. Tar......UH. I have spent my entire life correcting it since most folks insist on saying TerrA. Not a bad name but it's not mine. (NOTE: This Tara was born in 1952, making her the first and only Tara I know who is older than I am),

shamrockTara Love Vereyken - - My grandma and mother chose it, they thought it was unique and beautiful. I love it! Tar-a (like the tar on the road) I like my name very much and have never met anyone that pronounces it the way I do, the name can get annoying though. Everyone calls me Tear-a , it is aggravating. No one can seem to get it right.

shamrockTara Maenck - - Ref. to the Earth. Yep (likes it). Terra. I would like to communicate with other Tara's out there. Please E-mail me.

shamrockRobin Bridget Tarra - - I'm in the Wiccian Craft of white magic. I was given the Craft name : Tarra which I adore. I was told you could not use your Christian given name and you or someone chooses your other name. When I'm called Tarra it makes me feel a closeness to my Celtic religion. I love my name. Tar-ra

shamrockTara Anne Catherine - - My mother had a dream that she gave birth to a baby girl and named her Tara. When I was born, she decided to call me that. Eh, I spent most of my life being the only Tara, and only recently had to deal with other Taras. It's a nice name, easy to spell. Ta-ra (as opposed to Tar-a).

shamrockTara Arlene Williams - - My mother had finished reading Gone With The Wind and was intrigued with the name. Also, our family has Irish background, so my sisters and I all had Irish names. Yes, I do. As I have matured, I have been more interested in finding out about my Irish heritage. I am also a big Gone With The Wind fan. Like Sara with a "T"

shamrockTara Lynn L. - - Gone With the Wind was the first movie my parents saw together when they were dating, and it is still a favorite of theirs. I am the firstborn so they named me Tara. I love my name and would never change it, and ever since I saw the movie Gone With the Wind it has remained my most favorite movie ever! Tara, exactly like in Gone With the Wind...and for those who haven't seen it, like "Sara" with a T.
