Tara Martinsen -- My name is Tara and you pronounce it TEAR-A.I was named after the movie "Gone With the Wind". I love my name because it's different than other names. Also I'm Irish so it suits me.
Tara Michelle Miller -- I am 20 years old. I got my name because my mother and father used to watch the soap opera "All My Children" together every day. I guess I like my name I never really thought about it before. I pronounce it like Sara but with a T but I have been plagued by many other pronounciations and spellings and it drives me nuts. I am constantly correcting people that pronounce it any other way.
Tara Simone Morris -- I was to be named Tamara Simone but my parents met somebody with a daughter named that and they had nicknamed her Tomato and Salmon Sandwichs. My parents didn't want that and shortened it to "Tara" themselves, before realising it is a real name. I like my name because it's different and it's Irish. I have the red hair and green eyes, so it suits me. I pronounce it "Tah-rah". I hate it when people pronounce it "Terror". It makes me think of being a terror to society. Born 23/12/1977
Tara Anne C. -- Age 16- My name was chosen because my mom liked it and because it was Irish. I love it! so i'm happy she chose it. I like it because its not extremely common and its not strange either. Plus, its nice and short, but i hate it when people think my name is Sara or Caryn!!! I pronounce it like Sara with a T and i hate when people pronounce it other ways.
Tara Jo -- My mother liked the name from Gone with the Wind. My friends at work tease me with a line from the movie, "Don't you ever say anything bad about Tara again!" And yes, it's pronounced like Sara with a T. I love my name and I love the way an Irish photographer I work with pronounces it especially! (Do I have to say my age? Ugh. 25.)
Tara Lane Ashley -- I got the name Tara because my mom's favorite movie was "Gone With The Wind", and Lane because my mom loved her sister's name-Mary Lane. So when I was born, she named me Tara Lane. I pronounce it like Sara with a T and it really bugs me when people mispronounce it. I really enjoyed reading about all the other Tara's out there since I'm the only Tara I know! I never knew Tara meant so many different things.
Tara Jean -- I'm not sure how my parents came across Tara, but i know my grandmother didn't like the name they were going to originaly name me(Deserie) so they changed it. I am now 17 years old. My middle name is Jean. Its pronounced like terra. I very much dislike the name. There are a few Taras out there that spell and pronounce it just like me and I am the only one who ever gets called "tar-a". It gets annoying and the name is just a little too odd for me.
Tara Louise Dewdney -- From the book, Gone with the Wind. Oddly enough I would be given an Irish name. Both my parents were British, I was conceived in Scotland and born in Wales. Never used to (like it). Always wanted to be a Barb or Linda. But when I hit my 20s, I appreciated it a lot more than I ever did as a child. I'm 35 now. Like Sara with a T, or TAR-A. Tar-a. Exactly like Inspector Frost pronounces it from "A Touch of Frost".
Taramarie Roland -- It is pronounced Sara with a T with no middle name. Everyone uses Tara most of the time, except when mom is mad and uses the full Taramarie. My daughter is 21 years old born January 8, 1980. Tara is in her 3rd year of college to become a teacher. Tara works for the city we live in for the past 4 years as recreation specialist with children. I asked her what she thought about her name and if she liked it. Tara asked me why and I told her about your page. Tara smiled and told me that she loved her name and thought it fit her perfect. If you knew my daughter, you would agree. Tara is a beautiful down to earth, fun loving young woman full of energy and sunshine. Tara is truly a gift from God, a precious soul to know. It’s funny how her name fits her so well… TARA means, of the Earth. When I was pregnant with my daughter Tara, I knew I was having a girl… not because the doctors told me I was but because I wanted a baby girl so much. It took me 6 months of searching baby books and getting suggestions from friends and family, before I came up with Taramarie. I couldn’t find a name I wanted to give her so, I started with the one name I liked since I was a little girl… Marie. I didn’t want to name her a common name that everyone else had. When you come from Brooklyn New York and you’re Italian (Italian/Spanish), every family has at least one or two Marie’s (if not more). Beside that, I didn’t want my little girl walking down the street having boys call out… Hey… Carol, Donna, Jennifer. I wanted a name they couldn’t guess. My uncle Sal came across a very old very big Dictionary he had in the basement and gave it to me. It had all kinds of things in it, not like your normal run of the mill dictionary would have. It had a medical section, Spanish, French and Germany translation section and just what I needed… a baby name section. I went through the whole list of girls’ names, never looking at a boy’s name. I looked for names I could link with the name Marie. Lisa Marie was one of the names (Elvis Presley’s daughters name, and by the way my daughter was born on Elvis Presley’s birthday January 8). Lynn Marie, Donna Marie … they just didn’t seem to do it for me. When I considered the name Tara, it seemed to fit perfect… that and the reason being, when I held my belly and asked my little baby girl to be if she liked Tara Marie, she gave me a big old kick of approval. It was then I announced to my husband and family my choice of name. My family asked me why I chose Taramarie and why not Caroline after my grandmother. I said that there was to many Caroline’s in the family already, my mom and me being named Carolyn. My uncle said it wasn’t an Italian name and I told them it was of Irish decent. That didn’t go over to well with them, but it was just fine with my husband who is (Irish/Italian) mother in-law being Irish. I loved the name Tara Marie even more as the days went by and decided to make it all one name with no middle name… Taramarie. My husband swears that I named our daughter after the character in “ All My Children “ a soap opera that I used to watch. It definitely was NOT the reason since I was not to fond of that character in the first place. I was asked by my family if it was because my mother in-law (being Irish) again… NO! My friends asked if it was because of the movie “ Gone with the Wind “… NO certainly not! I didn’t realize there were so many reasons out there to pick that name. Tara truly was a perfect choice. The only reason why I chose Tara is that it is a beautiful name and my little girl helped me chose it with her pre-approval. Today, my daughter has met only one other Tara and likes the fact that her name is still not that common.
Tara Ellen Noonan -- Well....My family is VERY Irish and my mom always liked the name. Yes, although I never met anybody with it until i was in highschool. Tah-ra (I think it has to do with that Boston accents I always though of Tara as distinctly irish. To all of the Tara's out there you should be glad to carry that name because Tara is the name of a Buddhist princess, which is why my aunt chose the name Tara for myself. Buddhism is my families religion.
Tara DeLin S. - - I am a redhead of Irish descent, and my mother thought it was a very pretty name. (Note: I happened to be born in Atlanta due to my father's posting in the Ait Force - but I was NOT named for the plantation.) I used to hate it when I was little because my maiden name was Teel, resulting in a sing-song sort of noise which I detested. It is pronounced like the Irish "T-ah-ruh", which is neither like Sara nor tar + uh (too much like tar-baby, which was one of the jokes I got in elementary school). I love my name - when it is pronounced and spelled correctly. Many people can't do either one. Of course, it helps that the name has become so popular recently, although it can be disconcerting to hear a woman call my name and look up to hear her answered by a little girl. For years, I was the only Tara around.
