GOLIATH

UNWILLING SWIMMER

Bubbles break the surface
CO2s the gas
I'm afraid there's something down there
Putrefying in the darkness

There must be a rational cause
Maybe littering by tourists
Until soon I won't consider
The alternatives at all

The pool's a nervous place
Now a suspicion lurks
And the water's still as murky
As the first day that I noticed

I still laugh at myself
Lack of imagination
Normally requires patience
And a horror-filter system

Bubbles break the surface
And I try not to question
I hope that that's a shadow
And not a human face

They pulled her out that evening
An unwilling swimmer
And I empathise
Just try to imagine, the course

Putrefying in the darkness
You'd lose all sense of self
Surrender and be nothing
Dissipate away
