Angelique

come home

today
i have decided to keep a record
of you

i'll pull the little scraps
of time and flesh
from their places
and gather them
around me to make a memory.

and beneath all of
my meticulous fragments,
i am determined
that i will find
th exact moment you
said my name under your breath
and into my hair

(because i have forgotten)

driven

let me take your strong face
and put it to my mouth

i'll brush away time from your brow
and sorrow from
your bristly cheek

i'll kiss away the taut
mouth you wear
and leave it soft and lifeless

yet for all this
i'll leave your eyes alone
steely, lonely, living
eyes
to greet me in the morning.

untitled

i want to close my eyes
listen to his foreign voice
purring my name
and nonsense
bludgeoning me

i want a man from far away

dark with secret eyes,
so pale...
as long as distance is the element
bringing us here
and i can be someone else
for him

for nathan

he didn't ask me
around the world
but instead insisted i sleep
so i smiled,
and closed my eyes
(always the good child)
and pretended my heart wasn't breaking.

always the instrument, never
the player
watching, attentive,
for maestro to bring the opus
ended

be gentle with me, love
i can only be alone if you let me

patiently i sighed and waited

i child

i could love you--
frightening prospect
to the innocent inside me

but touching your hair and head
i know i could learn.

untitled

you tell me with your eyes--
do not cry in summer
but save your pain
and shed your tears
to melt the snow of early spring.

i respond with skin and teeth
trying to forgive myself
through a flesh-blessing

all the while praying we don't
mean a word

i am

some secret flame,
with planets
of ice
to explore;

a rivulet barely begun.
